Research Focus

Dr. Mason's research interests are in the social life of nonhuman primates. His work focuses on socialization and the development of social behavior, and on the proximate factors in the organization of social groups. An important aspect of the research on social organization is the comparison of primate species differing in life history patterns. Dr. Mason is past President of the American Psychological Association's Division of Comparative Psychology, of the American Society of Primatologists, of the International Primatological Society, and of the International Society for Developmental Psychobiology. He has served on the editorial boards of professional journals in psychology and primatology.
